guys,

this is my story.
i have been with the company since 1990. i got sponsored by the same company in 1996 and got my green card approved in october 2001. i have been getting a lot of offers ever since i got approved. my plastic is still in the mail after getting my green card stamped in newark.
this is my question.

1.can my employer hurt me by informing the ins. i have no obligations to him. i have not signed any contract or anything like that. at the same time i paid for all the green card expenses. i did not even take a penny from my employer.
2.since i have been with the same company since 1990 and if my employer informs ins will the ins still revoke the green card. i had even mentioned in my rfe which was for job letter that i have been with the company since 1990.
3.if i want to be on the safe side do you think working with him for 3 months which is up to jan 31st is o.k. (i got my passport stamped on oct 31st at newark ).

any advise will be appreciated

thanks in advance

See the following for one lawyer\'s opinion on this issue: http://www.imminfo.com/ImmInfoFTP/ImmInfoAnalysis2_1.pdf

Some general advices that apply in your case too:
1. document all your actions related to this decision
2. if you are really worried get your own immigration lawyer. Some of them provide the first consultation free.

If you are getting offers in the current economic climate then your skills must be in very high demand. So you have a job *now*, you have a green card, your future looks bright: where does the desperation come from ????????

If, as you say, you are "out of the blue" and without your active participation of seeking them out, got an offer dated well after October, and that offer is so much better than your current position in terms of salary for example, you can safely leave.

thanks a million

thanks guys,

your posts have definately given me an idea as to what should be done. the reason i was concerned was there have been so many confusing thoughts on this idealogy of job change. for some it was easy to say- go ahead and use the ac21 rule which is changing job after 180 days of filing for i-485 if necessary. at the same time for some it was- do not change your job right after your green card as they might revoke it when you apply for citizenship.
as far as desperation is concerned (i do not know if i used the right word)the whole process of the green card ties you up to many things like low pay (definately can get a higher pay and capable of much more as far as hard work is concerned). all of a sudden this new found freedom makes you throw your arms and legs around with a caution of a bad economy and the fear of an employer wanting to clip your wings to what ever extent he/she is capable off. hence the desperation and fear.
