Need advice for my mother

My mother and father both went for interview in Atlanta a week ago.

Prior to that, they received a letter that my mother's finger prints had not come through successfully. So they went back to have them taken again.

At the interview, both parents passed all tests. Dad was given the nationality the next day. But for my mother, they asked to have her finger prints taken then. Again, they were not satisfied. They asked them to go to the police station to obtain a certificate that there are no criminal charges against my mother.

My parents went to the police station and it was very simple to obtain the said certificate.

They went back to the USCIS office and handed that certificate over at the reception. They were not given a receipt. Next day my father went back to ask what happened, but the reception is not able to tell him. Meanwhile he is not able to talk to anyone because the standard reply is, wait 90 days. But they dont even know if the requested certificate reached the officer.

In this situation, what can my parents do. Do they even have the option to request an appointment with an officer?

Thank you very much!
