ND=OCT-2000 and EAD expires in 14-DEC-2001

Few questions:
1) My I-485 is about to be reviewed (my ND is Oct-2000).
   My EAD expires in 14-Dec-2001.
   Should I request a renewal of my EAD now? Or can I wait a little bit
   more (I hope my I-485 case is approved soon) and still be in the
   "safe" side?

2) What is the criteria to request EAD in person and get it ready the
   same day? Is it possible to do this in Newark Local Office? Am I
   eligible for this, given my information above?

Yours is same as mine. I am going to wait another 15 days before
I think about EAD. If you want to send papers to VSC you need
to do in advance by 3+ months or you can always goto nearest
INS office where they can issue EAD. They do it on same day.

All the best and lets hope we don\'t need to apply for EAD
renewal.

You can never predict INS. Better to apply for your EAD renewal. Don\'t take chances. Sometimes it is better to buy mental peace at any cost. I did the same. If your GC is approved earlier, INS returns your EAD. It happened to my friend.

I am in the same boat, my wife\'s EAD expires on 14th Dec 01.
I kept all the documents for renewal ready and want to wait up to end of this Friday i.e 08.31.01.
If I don\'t hear any thing then I want to Fedex on the same day.

I really do not understand what\'s happening with VSC as Nov cases are approving. Its frustrating, I even stopped checking AVM.
I use to check every day morning and evening, now I am checking once in two days.

If I were you I would apply for a renewal right away. VSC is processing EAD applications very slowly these days (even though they are suppose to act on renwals much faster than others).

Send your application in and hope that your GC is approved by then and you wont need the renewed EAD

I am on the same boat as you guys. My EAD will be expiring on Dec 19, 2001. I spoke to my lawyer about the above, he said, it\'s too early to worry. He said, in worst case senerio, I could go to Newark INS center during first week December. He said, hopefully, your I-485 will be approved before that.

my lawyer advice differently

Hi all,
Mine was expiring on 31st October and as I alwayas can walk-in to Boston office to get it renewed, I thought it can be done around 15th October (MY ND is 10/00). But, my lawyer advice me that generally district office approves EAD on the same day, but, there are chances that they can stop processing EADs at any time and can ask to file at VSC. It seems that VSC is taking about 60-90 days to process EAD approval, so, I don\'t want to take a chance and got it renewed at Boston office on 8/27/01. As mentioned earlier, we should have mental piece at any cost.

I may be wrong but my understanding regarding EAD renewal is as follows:

1. Apply at service centre. The general practice I saw in these
   boards is 90+ days in advance.
2. If you get it before your current EAD expires then you are ok.
3. If you do not get it and it is already 90 days since INS received
   the application then you can go to LOCAL INS office with the EAD
   receipt and you can get the EAD. ( some places they give you
   without charging but some places you have to pay the fee again).

But after going thru this discussion chain I understand that you
do not have to submit the application for renewal at Service centre for the renewal and you can just walk into local INS office and get the EAD. IS THIS RIGHT ?

Can\'t believe you people still here...

I haven\'t hear a sh*t either on my EAC 01-017 case. But, I sent out my EAD renewal application on Aug 1st to have some peace of mind.

Good luck guys. VSC is pretending to process Nov 2000 cases now.

Feel frustrated with INS? Just don\'t give too much expectation to those morons. They are playing games with us.
 
VSC is processing EAD very slowly?

They cashed my check in 10 days after I sent my renewal application. Now how do you explain this :-?

I also have all the paper work prepared ... but I set my waiting
deadline for the I-485 approval to Aug 31 before I dispatch
my EAD renewal request do VSC.
 
You should have sent it earlier

Bcos, any new activity would trigger your file to be looked at... especially when the processing is in progress...

Just shared my personal experience... I filed for EAD and AP extension first week of Aug-01 and my case got approved on 27-Aug-01 moreover I included a letter from my employer for AP (related to business travel in Oct-01). Just by doing this I achieved
1. My file to be touched
2. A confirmation to INS that I am with the same employer who sponsered my GC process, So, NO RFE.

SSAND, I believe what you just said is a very convincing reason for
filing the EAD renewal application. I think I will also send some
extra paper to prove that I am still with the same employer.
Once again, thanks for your time in giving this advice.
 
My renewal EAD Cards recieved within two weeks ... ( What a surprise!!)

My renewal EAD applications sent to INS on 08/14/01. I recieved the EAD cards on 08/27/01 (not even two weeks). My I485 ND OCT 2000. I am waiting for approvals...
 
I heard the same story in this board.

She sent her EAD renewal and triggered the 485 approval. VSC returned her EAD application, but she did not mention whether the check for EAD was cashed or not. Even it was, it is still worthwhile.
