Naturalized parents applying for child passport

What is the preferred procedure for applying for a child's passport once parents naturalize? Is it better to apply for passports at the same time (passport agency will have to use the parents' Nat Certs to process parents' and child's pp) or is it recommended to apply for child's pp after parents get theirs?

Secondly is it better to apply at a US post Office or at a passport agency in such a case?

Any guidance will be appreciated!

I did all at once and didn't have any problems. Shop around, not all post offices will do the whole family at once. The trick is that they make a copy of the naturalization certificate of let's say the mother and certify the copy themselves. It is not as much an issue of what to recommend, but what the acceptance agent will do ;) Post office is fine, if you are not in a hurry and the post office gives you a hard time, doing the parents first and then the child should get you all the passports in about a month and a half.

For passport agency you would need proof of upcoming trip. I would guess the passport agency wouldn't have any issue with processing all the family at once. However, if you are not traveling soon and don't live close to a passport agency I wouldn't do this and would go to a post office. Remember that both parents have to be present when you apply for your child's passport (I think I have this one right).

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. If it is OK with you can you tell me which post office did you apply for your passports?
I have few more questions regarding documentation for passport. Do we have to submit child's original green card and birth certificate? If they do, does the passport agency return child's green card and birth certificate? Do adults need birth certificate for passport?
Thanks again,

Yes, original green card and birth certificate for child. They will return both.

Adults don't need to send the birth certificate, just the naturalization certificate.
