I am originally from India and currently in the middle os naturalization. After getting US passport - I understand that I can apply for OCI card. I also understand that the OCI process takes a long time to get through (2 to 3 months). So lets say I apply for OCI and then while it is in process- lets say I need to travel to India. What happens then? Will I have to go and apply for a visitor visa? Will the OCI process continue simultaneously?
Any issues here? What do people normally do?

Thanks

You can apply for a visitor visa if you want to travel when your OCI application under process. There are absolutely no issues. If you live in one of those areas where CGI holds visa camps, you can go on a Saturday and get a 6 month visitor visa same day. You can use the same opportunity get your India passport officially cancelled.

Its a very simple process.

Goodluck with your naturalization.

Prasad.

Thanks. Here is a follow-up.
What happens in the following scenario?
If someone applies for OCI and say the process starts and finally the status says that the documents have arrived at the local Indian Consulate (say NY). However, the person had to go to India in the mean time (by applying for a tourist visa) while the OCI application was pending. So now when the docs for OCI were receeived from India by CGNY - the person can't go to CGNY to get the OCI sticker and OCI visa because the person happens to be in India. Will CGNY hold the visa and sticker process for a few months until the person comes back from India?

Thanks

If you are talking about a couple of months then you should be good if you are out of country when your OCI documents arrive at CGI,NY and you cannot go in person to get the OCI sticker on your passport. Also, you need not go in person you can mail the PP for stamping.

Hope this helps.
