Naturalization question --- please guide me.

I am a permanent resident for last 5 years in the US. Now I am going to apply for naturalization. However my first name in the green card was issued with one letter repeated in my actual name. I never had any problem with this and I never thought of correcting it. My Social security card, Passport (another country) and birth certificate contains the actual legal name. My question is,, whether I can apply with the my actual name and have my citizenship with this name (unlike that in green card)? How should I fill out N-400 form in this case?

Please guide me through this, as I am really confused.

Thank you.

It is not uncommon for there to be a spelling mistake, or wrong ordering of names, on the green card.

That's why on the first page of the N-400 they have one question for your current legal name, and another question for your name as displayed on the green card. Fill out each question accordingly, and bring your birth certificate and passport with the correct spelling to the interview and point out the mistake to the interviewer, and you'll be OK.

Carefully check you Oath and Certificate Prep Sheet. IF you sign off on the wrong spelling you will be screwed. Once you sign off, and they issue a cert with the wrong name that you OK'd, you would have to file in a District Court to get it corrected. Get it right the first time. If the Officer gives you grief and tries to make you accept the name as it appears on the greencard, ask to speak to a Supervisor.
