Naturalization interview next week but don't have my passport

Hi All,

My mother's naturalization interview is scheduled for next week and she doesn't has her passport with her. The passport was sent for a UK visa and is still sitting with them in NY. I am trying my best to get it back in time but wanted to know the options if don't get the passport in time Will it makes sense to go to the interview with a copy of the passport and explain the situation to the officer or should I go ahead and reschedule the interview?

Not sure if it will make any difference, but when I had my interview, i took my passport with me, but IO never even asked for it, even i was out of the country many times.
