Naturalization for Asylees

Once becoming permanent resident on Asylum basis, when can one apply for naturalization. I have heard two different stories.

One is that you are eligible after 5 years and can apply after 4 years and 9 months.

Other is that 1 year befor applying for green card counts towards naturalization purposes and you are eligible after 4 years and can apply after 3 years and 9 months.
 
The second story you heard is correct. This has been discussed before in this forum--quite extensively.

this kid is confused all the time and i think he will not understand the most basic things in life.

for sure that's wrong. not 1 yr before applying GC

u guys didnt get what i mean
 
I see your point now. But we can credit the one year in whatever form we want. We can say that the first year spent in asylum status (before filing the I-485) counts or we can say that one of the years spent waiting for the I-485 approval counts toward the citizenship requirements.

I was trying to say that we are eligible for naturalization four years after adjustment.

We have a great environment on this forum as compared to many other forums....
