Miami, FL – A murder suspect, a convicted rapist, and a man wanted by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for a narcotics violation are among the latest criminal suspects identified by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). USCIS security checks revealed that these individuals were convicted of or wanted for egregious crimes as they tried to obtain immigration benefits from USCIS.
Security checks revealed that Vincenzo Avignone is wanted by Italian authorities for murder, attempted murder, affiliation in a criminal syndicate, extortion, drug trafficking and possession and use of explosives and firearms. Avignone is a suspect in the bombing and machine-gunning of a bar to extort money from its owners. As a result of the cooperation between USCIS and ICE, Avignone was arrested in the Orlando USCIS Field Office.
In another case, security checks performed by USCIS officers revealed that Bulmaro Carapio Garcia is a convicted rapist with an additional conviction for a firearm charge. Garcia was arrested in the Miami USCIS District Office.
Security checks also revealed that Justo Alonso was wanted by the DEA in New York for a narcotic offense involving heroin. Alonso was arrested in the Miami USCIS District Office.
“USCIS is proud to play its part in the detection of criminal aliens in the United States,” said USCIS Director Emilio Gonzalez. “This is another example of USCIS’ efforts to enhance public safety by identifying individuals who pose a threat to our community.”
When USCIS identifies aliens who are wanted by law enforcement, it will refer such aliens to the appropriate Law Enforcement Agency for arrest, prosecution and/or removal from the United States.
