Hi,

The following pertains mostly to those with RD in 2001
or earlier and perhaps early months of 2002.

If you or anyone you know has waited for FBI Namecheck
for a year or longer, please post here, particularly if you have
recieved approval. Also, if you don't mid, please mention
whether you are from one of the Sepcial Registration countries
or not. I am trying to figure out if country of origin may be a
cause for unreasonable delay as a pattern and not for individual
cases.

Here is my I-485 info: RD-Nov 01, ND-Nov 01, two FPs,
three EADs, three APs, RFE & Response: June 03, waiting.
According to my FBI inquiry, namecheck has been pending
since Jan 03. I am from one of SR countries.

Thanks,

NOTE TO FRIENDS NEW TO THIS SITE: Please do not confuse
Namecheck (also called Security check) with FBI Finger Print checks.
They are separate things.

I have same problem, my RD -- 07/2002, my name check pending is Sep. 2003, somebody in the portal said, if you have EAD/AP which is needed secruity check, so what's the last time you got EAD/AP, I am not from SR contries.

As per FBI my name check was requested by BCIS on 12/31/03. It is still pending.

Not from a SR country.

how do you know your name check is pending at FBI?
As I know FBI only informs you when name check
is cleared. did FBI inform you it's pending after your inquiry?

Yes, FBI replied to my inquiry saying it's pending.

Frodo, thanks!
1st time to hear about it. still no reply from from FBI for my inquiry.

I received an email from FBI today in addition to their fax response earlier this month. I provided them with both my fax # and email address. They responded by fax first. Here is what it says:

"This is in reference to your facsimile dated June 4, 2004, concerning your immigration status. The FBI completed a record check for you on September 24, 2003, and the results were forwarded to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services."

I don't know what else is holding up my case. USCIS has had my name check clearance for almost 10 months! And no, i didn't get married during the process, didn't change my employer, didn't get in trouble with the law or ...

Well, i am not hopeless but it is kinda strange to see even November 02 filers are getting approvals, and some early 02 cases are still pending!!!

I received an email too:

This is in reference to your facsimile dated June 8, 2004, concerning your immigration status. The FBI completed a record check for you on March 8, 2003, and the results were forwarded to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

My RD is 11/2002.

From the forum, it looks like it takes about 4-5 weeks for FBI to get back to our query regarding the name check status.

just got an eamil from FBI a few mins ago. my "record check was completed
in Aug. 2003". it took a month for them to reply my fax inquiry.

initednations,

i tend to agree with you. i also think we wrongly think that background check is same as FBI check. and i am not talking about finger print check which is a totally different and quick thing.

Anybody who waited longer than a year for
namecheck and actually got approved?

If there is a trend of delay, say based on country of
origin, then it might be helpful for the lawsuit.

See this Google group thread:

It is correct that there is no CIA check for N-400 applicants. CIA check is
done for I-485
, Amnesty and other applicants; other than N-400 and N-600.
For CIA check the USCIS sends applicant's G-325 (Biographic Information
Form) copy to CIA.

Though this mail is related to citizenship, there are some more about name check:

For unknown reasons, FBI has been holding off name check requests from
USCIS for certain individuals until the applicants contacts FBI.
Applicants
interested in checking the status of this check should fax a status request
to 202-324-3367 David Hardy, Chief RID Section, FBI Headquarters,
Washington, DC 20535 with his/her full name, DOB, country of birth, home
address, home telephone no., A# and USCIS petition number and a return fax
number. They normally respond in 10 days. David Hardy at FBI is the Chief
of RID section that handles Name Check requests. If anyone finds out that
the name check has been pending for a long time write a letter to Mr. Hardy
requesting to "expedite the processing of name check request from USCIS"
bringing to his attention the time period the name check has been pending.
In addition, you can write to Robert J. Garrity Jr. Executive Assistant
Director, Records Management Division at FBI Headquarters; Mr. Garrity is
Mr. Hardy's boss. Also FBI Headquarters main number is: 202-324-3000 (ask
the operator to transfer you to a supervisor in Mr. Hardy's section).

How do you get to know that the name check is pending on your application. THere is no way you can find out by CIS case status.

How can you find out if the name check was issued or is pending

Unitednations,

Can you educate me WHAT IBIS checks stands for? How is this diefferent from name-check?

unitednations, thanks a million for a very detalied description!!
Last thing I heard from FBI was that my name chack was completed 6/21. I am waiting....

I dont even know where to start about GC

Strange, very strange...well first let me give my details...

2nd FP : July 2nd 2003.

RD : 10/25/2001
ND : 11/21/2001
1st FP : Jan 2002

Yes, I am an old timer too.

I have called the FBI fingerprint number and left numerous msgs to them asking about my namecheck, but they didnt reply.

I faxed my information on June 2 2004 and everytime I call them they say they havent reached looking at June faxes yet, but I see here people are getting responses who have faxed after me.

My case is held up for name check too and it seems that I dont get a response no matter how many times I try.

May be its just me...oh well...life goes on I guess...

You would think that there is a pattern to anything INS does, but the more I follow the portal here, I guess its an Alfred Hitchcock mystery as to how INS works...lol.

Keeping my finger crossed...

Thank you Unitednations for providing detailed info on the IBIS process!
it certainly might have helped many other in this forum!

A poor 01 waiter

hi,
I'm a poor 2001 waiter. My case is under security check as well(finger check is passed).
It's so sad to know this kind of check may take more than 1 year. My god, how do you guys spend this painful period?
As for me, it's so hard.
Wait for ever?
