Namecheck cleared.

After a long wait of over 2 years, finally I received a letter from a local senator that my namecheck was cleared on Jan20th. I have strong reasons to believe that contacting sentators/ congressmen for this helps.

Following are my 2 cents for the folks still waiting to initiate the request.

1. Identify a list of senators / congresspersons that you would like to contact for help. Following is the link to find the senator representing your area.

2. Visit their website and get information / forms to get help with a casework with a federal agency (FBI) in this case.
3. Plan to contact one senator or congressperson every week. Fill out the required forms and fax those to the numbers provided. Personally call to to find out about the caseworker that is assigned to your case.
4. Followup with the case worker frequently to check the status.
5. Remember to be polite and courteous. They are doing you a favor.

I agree with you about contacting senator and congressman and to be courteous. One thing I wanted to tell you, they are not doing us a favor, Infact, we are doing them a favor, remember this is a marketing strategy. if they help us we may support them. Just imagine, how many votes they get in turn.

I am planning to contact the senators but I am not able to think of a way to follow up

Congratulations on the NC clearance.

Congressmen's staff is just making an enquiry and telling you the results, they do not use any influence to help you. I don't how you say that contacting them will help, I agree that you will get the information, but not any undue advantage. They say don't blame the messenger for the bad news, in the sameway we can't give credit for good news either. Finally, through them we are getting the news, sometimes that itself is a great help. I too greatly appreciate their help, even I got to know my NC result from them.

I have been contacting congressman..but no good results yet..is it ok if senetor and congressman follow up FBI status request
 
what do you mean by contact oe seanator or congresswan every week. You can only contact your area senator / congressman or you mean write to others too.How often did the ymake inquiry with FBI M ycongressmans liasion says that they cannot contact them till one year after they inqured in September? Kindly clarify

It is not an email.

Most of the senators have dedicated caseworkers to help the residents with the federal agencies and they usually have forms available on their website to initiate the inquiry process.

You are probably right. However in my case some of the turn of events make me believe that the inquiry process itself might have caused someone to look at my namecheck.

Guys,
Pardon my ignorance here. I have applied concurrently for I-140/I-485. Where in the process does this 'name check' comes into picture. Is it done for everyone? Does it make sense if I initiate the name check now? Gurus, please advice. (My I-140 is not yet approved)

Name check is done after 140 is approved and 485 has been applied. You cannot initiate it....this something which is done by FBI. Everyone goes through this process and some of them get stuck in Name Check for years together.

Search in this forum for messages by Outletvolt1. He has a good FAQ on this.
