Name Variations on N400 Application

I realized after sending off my application that I forgot to include other variations of my name. For a long time, before 2001, I was able to use my nickname for all sorts of things, even for my Driver's License. I've included the nickname I've used but not all the variations with my middle name, nickname and full name etc. I was told to just mention this at the interview. But, after reading some of the posts here, I am wondering if I should send a letter in advance explaining the omission. I am currently in line for interview scheduling. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

Well, you can wait for the interview, but that might trigger another background check and delay your application. However, I don't think doing anything before the interview will be very helpful. CIS is a maze, and you'll just complicate things further. Just wait for the interview.

Thanks, cafeconleche. I will wait. Do you think I even need to mention other variations?

If you don't mention those other variations, but they discover them during background checks and related investigations, that could result in denial and having to wait 5 years to reapply.

You've used other names on official documents like your driver's license, so it won't be too hard for USCIS to find out if they look in the right places.

Thanks, Jackolantern. All the names I've used are just a slight variation of my nickname & legal name so I thought that may be USCIS doesn't care that I've used initials instead of full name etc. I will mention it at my interview.

A related question to name variations, I'm in the process of filling up N400. On my official docs, I have always used one combination (first middle last). I may have used abbreviated middle name in some cases ..may be a bank account. In my immigration history, I have always used the same combination..should I mention any of that on the Other Names used section..I don't think I did that on my 485 (adjustment of status application)...

Initials instead of full name don't need to be mentioned.

Mention the abbreviated name anyway. Otherwise you risk delays if USCIS discovers a name or variation of a name which you didn't mention on the N-400.
