name swapped in 485 application

Just found out that the attorney's office messed up my wife's name in her I485 forms (first and last names swapped; initially we though it was USCIS's mistake).

What should be done in order to fix this? We previously asked the attorney to send a request to fix the name error on the notice receipt. Please help out. Many thanks!

Try sending a letter to your service center mentioning 485 case # and alien #
and explain the error.

the attorney says that they will file an amendament. How do you think that this is going to impact the process such as name check?

As this is not an USCIS incorrect/misspell problem, probably your attorney needs to amend I-485 form (if it's pending), if you want to correct now.
Another option is to wait for approval and correct while stamping (when officer fills-up I-89 form).
The last resort would be correcting it after getting green card. In that case, you have to pay $185 (or you can ask your attorney to pay that as they did that mistake).

That depends. If her name check is not done yet, probably there won't be impact at all. And, I don't think name check for female applicant is a big issue. In this forum, almost all the poeple who are stuck in name check are males.

Pralay, thanks a lot for your comments. It is very comforting (my wife was quite upset). My biggest's concern is whether it will cause any delay such in name/backgroud check. Your point about female makes sense.

For female applicants even if some delay occurs due to name check (doing it twice due to name change) that will be insignificant compare to total time it takes to get I-485 approved. For most of the AOS applicants FP + name checks does not take more than one week. But many people's I-485 are pending more than 2 years. So, you understand the difference.
Therefore, I would not worry about delay is name check. Rather I would try to correct name as soon as possible and as smoothly as possible.

Agree. Thanks a lot for the comments. Let's wish the best luck to everyone who is still waiting.
