Hello,
There is a mistake in the name as it appears on my green card. The name on my other U.S. documents are the same as my green card. It doesn't match the name on my birth certificate. My middle and first name are replaced. The N-400 application asks for my legal name, is this my birth name? It also asks for the name on my green card.
There is an option for a name change when you apply for citizenship. I am not filing out this portion of the application because I want a name correction not a name change. If I were to get my name changed I would still have my former incorrect name as my original name, which I do not want. I want to clear the discrepancy between my birth name and green card name. I cannot change my birthname, so I want to correct the name I have in the U.S. So my question is how should I proceed to get this fixed. Do you think writing a letter with my N-400 application explaining the problem would suffice.
Thank you.
