Name Correction in I 94

Good to find this portal and thanks to all, who are behind this.

My Port of Entry was JFK Airport and I came last week. In my I 94 form, a part of my first name got missed.

When I went to the SSN office, they informed that my I94 form has only a part of first name. In my passport and H1 visa documents, my name is fine and only in I 94 form, the problem exists.

How should I correct this mistake in I 94 form? I currently stay in Stamford, Connecticut.

Please help me giving the info regarding the name correction on I94, port of entry is newark int .airport.to whom I contact there and how to cahnge my name in I 94 as my visa and passport.Please give the procedures..and how much time it will take?

If a mistake happens in I 94 that is given at Port of Entry, then it should be corrected only at Port of Entry.

Google and get the "Customs and Border Protection" / "Port of Entry" phone number. Call them and tell that you need to get your name corrected. They wont do it just by getting the information through telephone call, but you can fix an appointment to meet them.

Go and meet them at Newark airport with your passport, visa and wrong I 94. It would be great if you have a letter typed with exact details - what went wrong and what needs to be corrected.

As per rules, they should give you new I94, as per the process. [However, For me they didnt do it. They just corrected it in the system.]

Also ask them when they would be making the change. Then, after that you can go to social security office.

I did as above and my problem got corrected in few days.

All the best.. Dont panic (I was panic at that time...).... Its a simple thing to correct.

Problem with name in I-94

I am also facing the same problem, my SSN is pending.

My name in Passport is Given Name = "XXXXXXX YYYYYYYYY" (17 Characters) and Surname= <Blank>.
"XXXXXXX" is my First name and "YYYYYYYYY" is my Last name ( Father's Name). But name in Visa Surname ="XXXXXXX YYYYYYYYY" and Given Name ="FNU",

My port of Entry was at Phillidelphia on may-06-2007, and on I-94 First Name and Family name was asked, I was not sure to fill my name as per the passport or visa, and on I-94 the space given to fill First name was given only for 13 Characters, but my Fullname has 17 Characters "XXXXXXX YYYYYYYYY".

Futher to the confirmation from Immigration officer at the Port of Entry, I was asked to fill the name in I-94 as per the passport in the First name field and also to fill only with in the space available(i.e: 13 Characters) and not to exceed the space given, so the name in I-94 it appears as First name: "XXXXXXX YYYYY" ( the Last 4 char of my name is missing), and the Family name: <Blank>.

When I follow-up with SSN office, they told me there is a missmatch in my name in I-94 and passport and Visa.

Now my SSN is on pending stage. Please suggest me the solution if any of you have experience the same.

Will I get a my SSN. or should I approch Port of Entry Immigration office to get it my I-94 corrected.

My problem got solved it seems..I went to the port of entry ( you should have early appointment else may have to go 2 or 3 times..) but luckily I solved it in same day..

my problem was just reversed the given name and family name..in my passport also it was wrong like my family name was given as my actual first name and given name as family name and father name.. so now that is my first name...:) but in my visa and passport was same like this...but i wrote reverse in i94 .. so i went the port of entry 'inspass' emmigration dept..the guy given new i94 form and wrote as in visa and passport..and he told me that the concern person will come tommarow and will update with in 3 day in the system then you can go to ssn after one week..for me also space problem was there to fill but its not necessary to fill exactly on the boxes you can write above that with small size..

My problem also got resolved......:). I had been to Port of Entry ( Had no appointment) the imm dept at port of entry works from 8 t0 12 Monday to Friday. I explained my I-94 problem to Immgration officer, He was friendly.
He could able to understand my problem...May be he has solved such problems earlier. He took all my passport, Visa and my Immigration documents and asked me to wait for some time.
Later he came with all my documents and New I-94, It was changed to name as in my Visa, Given name is FNU and Surname is XXXXXXX YYYYYYYY.
He clearly explained me that we have to follow the details as per the Visa, not as per passport.....(Its a lesson). He also gave the contact no. of Immigration desk and asked me to give a call if any assistance required.

I was very much Thankful to GOD..........:)

Later directly from Airport I went to SSN office, I showed the SSN officer my new I-94, He could not find the match. I gave the Immigration desk no. and asked to contact them, he called before me and got the clarification from Immigration.
Then He got a match with my name as First name: "Unknown: and Last name:" XXXXXXX YYYYYYY", and he also confirmed that my SSN card will not have "UNKNOWN", it will just have "XXXXXXX YYYYYYYY". He also gave me a confirmation letter saying that I will get my SSN Card in 2 weeks of time. Now I am just waiting for the Card to come...............:)

It a kind of relief now.....But as I see in this forum....many of them are facing problem geting Driving Licence Bcos of FNU in their Visa/I-94. Praying GOD to Solve this problem in the same way.


Friends Nothing to get worried.......... From my experience I understood that This kind of problems are all common, there are plenty of such cases geting resolved in daily basis. If you are legally correct nobody can do anything.
Be confident and explain correctly wat problem is, Dont panic.................. be formal ...have a good sleep and food before going to such appointments.

GOD is always with us.........

If problem is there ......think .......Solution is also there.
