Name check

I wife had her name changed when she got married in 1998 (this was in India). She came to the US immediately on H4 visa and then got her Green card through me. In all the legal documents that she has in the US - her name has always been the new name after marriage (only last name was changed to my last name - first name remained the same).

We are ready to apply for citizenship. Can her application be taken by INS for Name Check? What is Name Check? When does that happen?

Do we have some control over it?

I am not sure if I understand what they do with Name check and when can it become an issue?

Please clarify and help.

Does the application ask for Maiden name? ( I haven't seen the application). I am sure it does. If so, your wife has to fill her name before marriage in the maiden name column.

As far as name check I don't have any answer. Anybody can get stuck in that. Remember, name check is done for every single applicant. For most applicants it is completed quickly, but for some it takes longer.

Experts.... Correct me if I am wrong.

when is the name check process activated? When FP is done or after that? We received interview letters and i know some folks have been told during interview that the background check is not completed....
