does one's case has to be pending longer than a certain time period to be able to setup an appointment? does this appointment transfer your case from service center to local office? thanks.

No and No.

My case is pending for less than 6 months and I was able to take infopass. This appointment does not change any thing, other than you getting the information.
 
Please help. what to select in "Type of appointment".

I am trying schedule an infopass appointment to find out Name Check Status and confused while selecting "Type of appointment".

Do I select "You have a question about your case." OR "You wish to speak to an immigration officer."

As my 485 have not been approved. Do I have a Alien Number?? If yes where can I find it?

I selected "You Wish to speak to an immigration officer" .
I think Alien number can be found on your 485 receipt.

On appointment day my appoitment letter was given to immigration officer and when I was called to the window. I was able to get information about my finger print & name check.

Looks like we are in the same boat...series of LUD after RFE response received and nothing so far.
Would you mind sharing what message is showing up in your case when you check online?

i called USCIS today and they told that my namecheck is still pending. see my signature. does this mean that i'm offcially stuck in this FBI namecheck hole or not yet?

anybody had his namecheck cleared in few motnhs after the submission? or it is either 2 weeks or 3 yrs nothing in between?

Well!... I am waiting from August second week on Name Check. I wanted to check with others as well. What is the latest name check clearence any one received?
 
I went to the local USCIS office today (on infopass appointment). They say that my FBI background check was initiated on June 1, 2006 and is still pending. The I-485 receipt date is May 24, 2006. There is no indication on when it's expected back from FBI, but the lady told me she had seen some background checks pending for 3-4 years... I just hope it won't happen to me.

Given so few recent approvals, I'm wondering if everybody is stuck in FBI background checks these days...
