name check status over the phone??

Ok, is it just me or is it really impossible to get the name check status through the 1-800-375-5283 number? I have called them 3 times over a period of two weeks and only once I was connected to the IO and even she refused to answer the question over the phone. I have tried everything, being humble, saying ‘please’s’, being nice etc. but it doesn’t work.
Is it because my PD is within the processing date range?

I posted this question before on this forum and the answer I got was that, yes, you can inquire about the name check over the phone.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or I should be doing different?
Thanks.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I guess it depends on the IO or something. Usually, they will say that you will hear something by mail. Try arranging an infoPass where reliability of knowing your status is more than 1-800 number. Good luck

It's only been a couple of months. So what if you know you are in name check or not - there is *nothing* you can do about it for at least a year (if you are in name check - if you aren't, you will have heard good news by then).

Just sit back and enjoy the wait.

The customer service people do not have access to detailed information about your case status. They have been put in place to field calls and give out the pat response that you typically hear from them ("A case of this nature takes x number of days to be processed. Wait that long and call us back if you don't hear anything from us"). They can't even tell you if anything has been mailed to you (should seem simple enough for them to check).

In some cases people get lucky when the customer service person routes the call to an actual immigration officer. The IO has complete access to your file and should be able to tell you the status of your name check, but good luck getting through to one of the IOs (I would say that the chance of that happening is very slim at least until the official processing date for your DO has passed your PD).

I agree with kagemusha. Check this out.....I had called customer service line 3 times since end of April and luckily all 3 times my calls were transferred to the IO and all three of the IO's told me the same thing that the transfer of my file to the local office has initiated as of mid April and it will take upto 90 days for the transfer to complete and I will then be sent my interview letter. They all told me that my background checks along with FP & NC have been cleared and I am good to go, but early this week I went to the local office (thru Info Pass) to check on my status. I was told that my FP and NC are cleared but the file is still not hear and there is some other background check which is holding my case. Hopefully it will be all cleared pretty soon but they can't give me a time frame. I don't know who was right, customer service or this local office information. It's hard to guess.

Stop worrying till your PD falls out of the "now processing date". I personally think the phone line is a waste for this issue. They give you some answer and hope you will go away. Just do a forum search to get an idea.
There is nothing you can do till it appears your case is actually behind other cases according to uscis website. Follow the tracker for your DO to know the general progress .

There you go. aabbcc11 makes 100% sense. You can't really count on this customer service number. It's disappointing but that's the truth.
