I went to Houston local INS office and inquired about my long pending I-485. The officer checked my case and told me my case is pending because they are waiting for my name check result to come back. She told me the name check request was made OCt. of 2003 and Houston office can do nothing further on my case but to wait for the result.

What about this name check process, how long does it typically take?

Name Check

Its a background check which now they have introduce. I'mm in the same boat. You can ctc FBI or send a fax. Look for format in FBI name check thread.

Thank for the the response.
I called the FBI number, and they have discintinued the phone service and all inquiry will be handled by E-mail since Sept. 23rd.

I sent an E-mail to FBI last week, and still has not heard back from them.

I just listed my A#, name, return E-mail address as requested by their phone message, and asked them to help me check my case, nothing formal.
By the way, I have not heard back from them yet.

i am in the same boat , i had i485 interview at arlingon on 25th , oct, 04
turned out to be ugly , name checks are pending , rest was fine , v dishearted , dont know how long it takes , thou i have faxed and email fbi , lets see wht happens next . office who took interview told me that she will request name check ASAP . but still can anyone tell me how long it can take to reallllllllllly get throught this hectic process of name check .

I have not heard anything back from FBI and it has been more than a month.
I did contact my congress man a week ago and his office staff told me to fill out a certain form and I am hoping that may make a difference.
I will certainly keep everyone posted if I hear anything.

I didn't know that INS can make a request to FBI to ask to speed up the name check process. What the Houston INC people told me was there is nothing they can do about it.

This whole thing is just torturing my heart. I have a ND of NOv 2001.

thanks for the response and good luck to u...after finding out ur ND is 11/01, i feel like i shud not even bother worrying abt my case at this point...my ND is 11/03. good luck 2 u and hope some good news r coming ur way soon...
 
FBI response

I got a Email back from FBI today address the inquiry I sent out on Sept. 29th.
It mine is still pending and mu husband's was returned the same day INS sent the request.

Interesting enough, Houston INS people told me the request was mande Oct of 03, and FBI says the requests were made August of this year.

I plan to give it another month or two, before I do anything about it.

got my interview notice

I finally got my interview notice from Houston INS. I can't tell whether they have received my FBI name check learance or not. I assume they did.
My interview date is in March, and I am counting the days.

Received response from FBI today for Oct15th enquiry

I received response from FBI for the enquiry sent on 10/15/2004 as follows:
A request was received from the United
States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on March 21, 2003
and it was completed on March 21, 2003. The results were forwarded to
USCIS.
Anyhow I heard my namecheck had been completed from Dallas local office when I visited them on 12/30/04.
