Name Check process - 485

What exactly is the process in BCIS for 'name check' in 485 process. I saw few posts by norfesept01, etc about having their names checked so on and so forth.
If one of you can explain what exactly that means that would be great.

This is FBI name check. It usually takes less than a month but if they find similarities in names, it takes more up to around 2 months. I say this based on the applications for visitor visa whihc go through the smae process. Also, it is based on the news conf. of high ranking officicals sometimes back (around 4-6 months ago. Now if you call NSC and ask them about the status of your application, they say it is under name check and so forth which is hard to bleive. That much I can say. aghajan
