Name check in Mumbai

We had our CP interview yesterday at Mumbai. The interview went off very smoothly (very few, basic questions) except for the fact that the visa officer said he wanted a name check done for my wife. He made it sound like a formality and asked me to come back next week, drop our passports off in the morning and pick them up the same evening. Here are my questions:
1. What cases require a name check?
2. I've been trying to find postings for other who have been through the name check process in Mumbai. Couldn't find any. If you have, can you please post your experience?

Docs asked during interview

FYI...just basic documentation was checked during our interview:
1. Medical Report
2. PCC
3. Birth Cert copy
4. DS 230 (part 1&2)
5. I-134
6. Marriage Cert copy
7. Employment letter

In my case, since my wife's maiden 1st + last name were pretty common (I'm presuming) the name check happened. It got cleared witihin a week.

Also, could you share your dates. When did you apply for CP and how long it took to schedule CP?
