Name check and codes?

I just got my interview done and we got the answer it all looks good but the FBI check is not finished yet. Our interview was only 5 months after the reciept date. Our wonderful interviewer said that only 2 out of her 6 interviews had a completed background check. That is only 30 percent of checks finished on time. She said since the interviews were so soon after the receipt dates, the checks have not been finished on time. Then, we just have to wait for the check to come through to get the approval letter. My questions are:
1) What do the codes mean (code 1, 2 and 3)? I got a code 2 for the EAD and a code 2 again later for the I-485. Since I had done the code 2 already, I asked an officer what this was about and he said that the information for the first code 2 was not linked up to the I-485 application and that we could call comebody and get them to link up the information for both applications or we could just do another one which would be easier. So we did another one. I did not recieve a code 1 or 3 for the I-485, so since my interview date was just around the corner, I talked to an officer in person and the gentleman was surprised that the interview was so soon and allowed me to do a code 1.
2) Does anybody know what the checks, specially the name check gets started? It appears that since only 30 percent of the background checks on the applicants were completed by my interview date, that there is somekind of backlog.
3) Anybody with a similar expirience?

Same here my friend.I had my interview 3 months after my RD.The best thing is to sit and wait.
I have no idea what the codes means or indicates, if someone else can help both of us that will be great.
The Name check starts sometime after you send your applications and before or just at the time of FP.

Ihad my fingerprinting dne yesterday and mine was a code 3. On the bottom of the sheet they give you to fill out I noticed that a code 3 was for fingerprinting and biometrics while a code 2 I think was only for fingerprinting I dont remember what the code 1 was, maybe only biometrics.

ASC code 1 is for your 10 finger fingerprints (called TENPRINTS).
ASC code 2 is Biometrics. Thats your thumbprint, picture and signature. Typically for your I-765
ASC code 3 is for both of the above (consolidated into one). This is typically for your I-485

Background check runs through multiple government databases with your basic information, such as name, date of birth, SSN (if applicable).

I completed my AOS interview yesterday, and I was approved and stamped at my DO. I decided to ask the status of my background check, and the examiner told me that my background check cleared in February 06; orignially they checked me in November, 2005 (a couple weeks after my applications were submitted to the lockbox), and that check came back pending, so they checked again in February, and it cleared.

My DO is Washington, DC., and we got crazy backlogs here. I think the reason I got my background check cleared so early and easily is because I have been in the US for the past 10 years as a student, and I got my SSN back in 1996 when it was permissible for F-1 students to get SSN. If anyone cares, back then F-1 SSN doesn't have employment authorization. So I have a solid track record of legal presence as far as USCIS is concerned, and I have "life" records for the background checks to pinpoint me exactly in the database. I could see how some people get stuck in the system because simply there is not much reference except a name. So that might throw the system off a little bit.

Good luck.

I am in the same situation. I had my interview about seven weeks ago and was told to wait for name check clearance. My interview was also five months after RD.
I have been here for five years and been through F1, OPT, H1. I have had SSN for five years too. I am not sure why it is taking so long to clear my record.
I have actualy sent a letter to FBI under FOIA and the reply was "no record" related to investigatory interest. I just called the name check main line and was told name check status is no longer provided...
so i guess there is nothing much to do except for sit tight?

mmm.... I got a unique combination of name and last name. I think in Italy just my grandfather had the same in history.
And got my SSN back in 2000 (when I came for my first internship while in college).

If I'll get stuck (knocking on wood right now), it means that it's completely random, IMO.

I am also in same situation like u all..had my interview 5 months ago and said pending background check and nothing until now. I have been in this country for 6 yrs maitaining my F-1,OPT and H-1 status. I just went to my DO to find my status and they told me the same thing again. I am travelling to my country next month and i am little worried to go without my GC. Hope we all get our name check cleared.
