Name change

I want to change my name during N-400 citizenship process, I will be checking on the option on this form. How much of a hassle is it to get the name changed this way? What else do I need to do, besides requesting name change on this application?? I read somewhere that something has to be done at local court as well. Does someone have step by step process? I am not much worried yet about changing name at SS, credit cards etc. All I want is name change to go smoothly on citizenship application.

I have no experience in this, but one complication is that I believe it limits you to a judicial rather than administrative oath ceremony. As I understand it, the administrative ones happen more frequently.

Well, I requested a name change and thus far it has not caused any issues. For starters, I already had my interview, (the link to the post in my signature), I had to sign documents with the new name, I had to file a petition for a name change(sounds more difficult that it is) and I must take the oath cermony before a judge at a local district court. The only downside is that I have to wait for my oath letter as opposed to receiveing it the same day and the district court is much further than the local USCIS center which could also give me the oath and even naturalize me on the same day as the interview.

In places like Newark name change and oath is all done on the same day, so no hassle at all.
