Name change Procedure

Hi All,
I am Indian citizen working on H1 right now. My company will be sponsoring me for Green Card in a couple of months. The problem is that I want
to change my name. Is it advisable to initiate the name change procedure for me and my family now or wait till the I get the green card. What are the pros and cons of each? Also please let me know the procedure that is to be followed for name change.

If you are an indian citizen...

You have to
1. Change your name in the gazette in India (thru Indian consulate is possible)
2. Apply for a change in the passport
3. Apply for a H1 amendment (biggest hassle)

Even after GC you have to do steps 1 & 2. But changing the name at around 485 stage might minimize the hassle.
