Name Change - Not due to marriage but convenience

I applied for a name change (both - first and last name) in the N-400 application since I wanted a shorter name. This name change is NOT due to marriage (I am a single male) and my DO is Atlanta. Has anyone gone through this situation? Does anyone think that my citizenship interview or oath will be delayed due to this reason? What are your other thoughts and suggestions? Thanks

If your DO does administrative oaths, your oath may be delayed, due to the fact that oaths involving name change have to be performed in a court. If, on the other hand, your DO only does judicial oaths (like NYC, for instance), then your oath won't be delayed.

Delay will be relative to USCIS way of torturing immigrants. Unless your new name is Pinto Beans Osama Now Appear, I see no delay in the approval and swearing in ceremony. :)

My DO is Atlanta. Not sure if they do Judicial or Administrative oaths. Will have to find out. In the meanwhile please let me know if you find out. Thanks for your reply. Appreciate it.

If there is a delay because of the name change, it is usually not more than 1 or 2 months.

Note that if you change your name via a court process separately from naturalization, that by itself could take 2 months (and cost hundreds of dollars), depending on how the process works in the city/state where you live.

Thanks for the heads up.
