Name Change...Is it allowed during Interview

Hi,

Just had a question. if required, is there a possibility that you can change your name during the interview ? In that case what happens...

Does anyone has any experience doing this ??

Just curious.
 
Yes, you can request name change at interview without any issues, just like you can update anything of your N-400 at interview.
 
Sanjay is a nice name. Hope you not changing it to a firangi name :)

Or maybe, you are changing a long name to Sanjoy :)

Bear in mind that your name change can delay the whole process. If you do not mind the delay then you can go ahead but if you mind like many of us, then it may do you a lot of good to wait till after your oath ceremony to change your name. Its a lot easier and faster that way.
 
Folks on this one, I want to ask a practical question and get your thoughts.

In my country of origin, we add a certain vowels at the end of last name for female. Example: I will be Mr Smith, she will be Mrs Smitha...

So far this did not create any major issue...once a while she gets letter as Mrs Smith or I get letter as Mr Smitha..

As we become more Americanized...i was wondering if my wife should consider standardizing the spelling of her last to one family name as Mrs Smith (instead of Mrs Smitha).....Any thoughts or suggestions...?

Only drawback with this approach is that we go back to our country of origin, this will create some unamoly with their standards (we got married in our home country in she took my last name with adding vowel letter at the end).

It won't delay the "whole process". It may delay the oath.

However, doing the name change afterwards can have its own delays which may be longer, because in some jurisdictions it is expensive and time consuming (you have to submit a pile of paperwork and wait for a court date).
 
Can one change FIRST name only :) I have no problem with my last name (despite it being the size of a GUID) but it took a decade to standardize the first name into one of three or four possible spelling alternatives...

I noticed that trend in Russia and some other countries. For example, Anna Kournikova's parents last names are Kournikov and Kournikova.

If you go back, what would stop her from adding back the "a"?

Anyway, if the only problem is that once in a while somebody drops or adds the "a" incorrectly when sending you a letter, it probably isn't worth doing the name change ... they might do that anyway if she drops the "a" from hers.

Of course you can change only your first name. Or only the middle. Or only the last. Or all three. Or add a middle name. Or remove the middle name. Or move the first name to the middle and add a new first name. You can do whatever you want with your name.
 
No i am not changing my name to any Firangi names :-) :-) . I am keeping my first name as it is....Contemplating if i should just shrink my last name, Most of the time i.e 99.9% they mess it up anyways !!!

I once took a class in Object Oriented programming by a pony tailed guy who had legally changed his name to III. No joke, III. He went by 'Three'. He was in the phone book (as he said, between IBM and ITT :D). Saw the driver license, name 'III'.

Once I thought of changing my last name (I didn't like it) during my N-400 process. It would have been easy if it was with N-400. But when I thought about all the complications involved in changing my last name on other documents etc., I had changed my mind. I will think about it in future (although it would be expensive then).

I never changed by last name (12 letters) eventhough people either mispronounce or misspell it all the time. It's part of my identity,so I rather correct them. Now I can see a justification for wanting to change a long name of 20 or more characters if it creates more problems than its worth.
