Name change in the passport

Hi Gurus please help  ,
I have already booked appointment for my parents in October. My father's name is missing a letter 'H' in his passport. Me and my husband got our greencard last December. Now that Iam pregnant I would like my parents to be here with me. Iam sponsoring visa for my parents.
My question "Is it necessary for my father to have the 'H' in his passport as his pension papers and some assets hold 'H' in his name?” When he wanted to change his name in his passport there is a new process these days i.e.) NEW PASSPORT which means new passport number. There is no way he can change his name like olden days.
Well I have made an appointment using his name having 'H' in it. Please advice me what to do. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

One spelling will not give any trouble in issuing visa, unless the name is under scrutiny list/database

Hi,
Depends on what consulate they are going to. The chennai consulate of late has been quite finicky abt names in passport. I've had quite a few clients who have been asked to go and change their passports and have had to go thro so much delays in their travel plans.
