They Approved N-400 interview on Dec 2 -
requested name shortening ..they said you are going to get ur oath letter in 6-8 weeks. Now it is 10 weeks I guess!
Dont understand what the delay is ?
(In chicago - my cousin got his 'name change' oath letter in 3 weeks after interview)

I called 800-375-4283.
Guy told me to do an infopass - took one for this friday at Fairfax ..
hopefully all the mountains of snow will be off (including some that is going to fall tomorrow/wednesday) and I would be able to make it to the appointment ..

Is there any one from the FORUM that tried to fiddle with names at interview approval in FAIRFAX office ?
Please post ur experience.

alright - went and met the IO on Feb 12th (yeah, first 'open' day after snow storms) - the IO says 'court approved name change on Jan 28, waiting in the Q to be oathed'.
Would appreciate if there is anyone who is in this boat ..

I will be in the same boat ( just shorten my first name) soon after getting an interview. Eager to know how long your case would take. I may reconsider it if it takes too long and do it on my own. Please let us know your progress.

If you name is cowfacedrinkmilk, then it is approved within a day... because they recognize your Irish heritage...

Very funny, Al (as always)
cowface - from what I heard - it could take much longer if you do it on your own - and that you could end up spending some dough (not lots of it, but still).

I have the same situation like you. My interview was on 3th of February in Fairfax Office of VA. When I requested for changing name the officer told me that it will take at least 2 months to recieve your oath letter. Now I'm just waiting!!

One more update.
I also called USCIS on the 90th day (March 2) using the pretext my case processing is 'out of published' time limits.
They took the info and gave me a case #.
Yesterday I received a letter from USCIS stating that my case is 'approved' and that they area waiting for a slot to open for Oath.
Again - when you go in person for an infopass, you will never get anything in writing. So all the folks waiting on name change - on 90th day, make it a point to call for a check.

Oath Completed on May 20th - thursday.
Letter asked me to report by 8.00 am - with the traffic being a B, me and wife reached there at 9.10 AM.
Parking is a couple of blocks from the 401 Courthouse address.
They DO NOT allow cell phones and cameras into the building. Lucky that wife came along - gave everything to her asking her to go back to the car, dump them and come back.
Inside it was smooth - they took my GC and the oath letter. They asked if there were any traffic tickets since the interview and before the Oath - I said NO. she gave my numbering and asked me to go sit in the chair. Behind me was a "Desi Girl" - from what she said she interviewed like before October 2009. She got a traffic ticket and DID not bring the proof - they refused to entertain - she went out, and maybe called some one to get the proof of payment and returned back at 9.45 and they took her in. So if you have a traffic ticket after interview, GET the proof of payment to the Court.

At 10.00 the District Attorney gave description of whats going to happen. At about 10.15 the Judge and his entourage came in - with their hammers, Oye Oye and the works.
The DA read thru all the names, we stand up and state the name of the country.
Judge approved the motions of name change officially.
After that was complete for the 70 odd users, there was a 40 minute discourse by the Judge on why US is great. Then reps from Daughters of American Rev addressed us and sang some poems i think (you can gauge my state by then).
Then some other justice dept folks gave another small discourse - and then the Judge came down and met all the participants who changed their names.
Then they called us one by one to hand over the Nat Cert, and 2 certified copies of name change sealed by court.
DAR folks gave us flag and stuff.
I rushed to eat, then to SSA office and DMV office. By EOD i finished both - and on friday I submitted by passport application.

So guys - that marks the end of my immigration journey!!!

My case is exactly as yours
1- name change
2- Fairfax office
I have done my interview on January 20th.
Would you please let me know when have you received the oath letter?
I really appreciate your help as I am going to have a long travel soon and I need to make arrangements

I received the Oath letter in the last week of April. That too after I contacted the Senator around mid-april by sending Jim Webb's office a letter with supported documentation.
Look at the other threads I opened for those details. Even others have done the same.
