N400 while on the road ...

This is a great forum !

I would like your opinion. I'm planning on filing the N400 next January. I'll also leave my Job in December and go for a 6 month motorcycle trip next February. My address will be at a friend's house (starting this August). So, during the N400 process I'll be 'on the road'. The Trip will be from Anchorage down to the 'Tierra del Fuego' (south Chile). So depending were I am, I have to fly-in to my home town for the Interview and the oath. Is this situation (not working and maybe currently abroad) problematic for the Naturalization process ? Should I even mention during the interview that I'm travelling ? Other than the situation, my case is a no-brainer, no extensive time abroad, same employer for 10+ years, taxes always paid, employment based GC.

Thanks for your opinions !

You'll have to disclose any part of trip outside the US (the day you enter Mexican border). It is doable since you'll be out of US less than 6 months. The biggest obstacle will be coordinating any correspondence from USCIS you receive while you're on the road.

And maybe fingerprinting. You can attempt a walk-in at one of the US cities along your trip route, but walk-ins are not guaranteed although these days they seem to accept nearly all walk-ins.

it won't be any problem if you don't try to stay outside USA for more than 6 months. You have to mention your travel dates on N400. You have to make sure to keep contacting with your friend to look after your mails including UCIS mails. Make sure to get fingerprint done before you start traveling. When interview comes, you will have to make sure to go to the nearest airport. It can be a challenging task, can't it :)
