Hi,

My aunt has had a green card since 2003. Now, she wants to apply for US citizenship but she just returned from an overseas trip that lasted exactly 180 days(6months). Does she have to submit extra papers to show the immigration because of this overseas stay? Also, her tax returns shows a different address than her actual address and that is because she is a baby sitter and she basically stays at her employer's house for the whole week and comes to her house on the weekend only. Will that cause any trouble when she applies for her citizenship??

Thank you very much!!!

#1. Trip
If this was the only trip, it may not be an issue. She may be asked to prove residential ties with US during her absence, but it depends on the totality of evidence. For a trip shorter than 6 months (183 days) the onus is on CIS to show that she broke her residency. If she had back to back trips, it might be an issue. Show / prepare the evidence for this only if asked.

#2. Either address is fine as it can be easily explained.

Since that trip was so recent, to improve her chances she should apply 6-12 months after the end of the trip. It looks worse to apply immediately after returning from a long trip.
