N400-Other names

I have a question about "other names".

Since my original first name is hard to be pronounced, I've been using an American name replacing my first name. Customers and co-workers is using this name in some business emails and documents.

But all official documents like W-2, pay stub etc. is under my original name.
So, this name is not used officially.

Do you think if I still need to put this name down as "other names"?
I'm thinking I do not need but I just would like to make sure if this is o.k.

Thanks

Yes you need to list that made-up name, since you are known by that name at your workplace and have used it on some business documents (and not just used informally among friends and family).

Do you plan to officially change your name to match the made-up name which you have been using.

I'm still thinking of it. I thinking of use it either as first name or as middle name.
Do you know what is the process if you would take this option of name change?
Do I need to go to court seperately after I get the certificate of citizenship? Then, get a DL, passport etc.?

Hi
Personally I think you should list all other names you have ever used. It would not hurt to list anyway, just a little more keyboard strikes.

About name change during N400, it is easy. Just click "Yes" and type in the name you like. That's it. However, after that you may have a lot of thing to do;- e.g. change name for bank acc, credit card DL and so on.

One more question here!

If I would like to change my name through N400 (ex. New first name, my orginal name (middle name), last name (to my husband's, current one is my maiden name)), I will get totally new name on the cerificate of citizenship.

Since my daughter needs to be applied for US passport based on mine, do you think this new name would be all right?
All proof of documents would be under my current names, then, how do they know she is my daughter even though it is changed to same last name?
Do you think it would be any issue when I and my daughter apply to US. passport together?

Your reply would be really appreciated!
I'm about to submit N-400.

Hi Redrobin

No, there will not be any issue. I think you will get a court paper which will show both your old and new names

Specify the new name on the N-400, and your new name will legally take effect when you complete the oath and your naturalization certificate will have the new name.

Because of the name change, your oath would be a judicial oath, so it probably would be a smaller than usual ceremony, only with people who are also changing their names. And a judge would be present (the ceremony may or may not be in a courtroom, but the judge has to be there).

You will also get a name change court document showing that you changed your name from old name to new name. However, in some cases they forget to give people that document -- so when you take the oath remember to ask for it if they didn't give it to you.

Thank all of you for kind explanation! I will make sure to get court documentation to show both names.
