N400 Application

I am a permanent resident for over 9 years and am currently applying for citizenship. I have some questions about Part 10 D - Q#16, 17, 18, 19 & 20. I have only received speeding tickets. All of them have been fully paid and cleared. I have about 6-7 tickets in total since I have come to the US. However, I do not have the detailed paperwork on all of them. What is the best suggestion in filling these questions up?

i can't recall what 17-20 are. however, you have to answer Yes on Q16 since traffic tickets = citation. you might want to check your driving records from yoru state DMV to determine if they have your record. however, regardless if they have your records or not, you still have to contact the county clerk which issued the ticket to you. you need to get a copy of the citation, and the proof of the fine was paid in full.

it becomes tricky to get those proof if you can't remmeber when you got tickets.

good luck

p.s. FYI, if DMV does not show you have a ticket record, it does not mean it is not there. DMV might only maintain 3 / 5 / 7 years traffic voilation records in their system.

as i mentioned in above, you shall contact the county, or court house which issue the tickets to you for details.

The best thing to do is to put the tickets to the best of your recolection on another piece of paper.
Say for example speeding ticket in San Francisco in 1996 (not sure what the date is etc...).

Many interviews don't ask for any proof of payment. However, some do so people don't want to take a chance and try to bring all paperwork to the interview.

You can just take your chance as long as you don't lie on the n-400 or during the interview. You can explain your case during the interview and there is a very good chance the interviewer would not bother asking you to go to all these courts. Also bring the dmv court records which may be enough for some interviewer to see that there is nothing outstanding against you.

Worse case scenario the interviewer will request that you bring court records.
In this case you can just go to all these traffic court and get from them either a letter stating they have nothing on the record for you or the disposition of your case.

Whatever you do apply for you n-400. They will NOT deny your case b/c of traffic tickets. Worse case scenario is that there may be some minor delat.

they would deny the n400 application if the appliant does not disclose it on the n400 form, and lie during the interview (if they find out).

You are right don't ever lie especially not during the n-400 interview.

However, I personally know people who had speeding ticket, went to the interview and told the interviewer about these tickets but had no proof. The interviewer didn't care to see proof of anything and approved the application.
I also know a guy who went to the interview and the interviewer specifically told him to exclude traffic tickets.

All I say is that it is of course a best practice to come prepare with all the paperwork and proof for traffic tickets just in case the interviewer wants it.
This will eliminate any delay. Howerver, someone can decide to take his chance and go without the proof.
What's the worse thing that could happen to him? The interviewer will ask to see court records. In that case the applicant can go to court and get it and bring it back. This will cause a minor delay but that's it.

As long as you don't lie traffic tickets or no traffic tickets you'll be naturalized unless you have some other serious problem such as dui or reckless driving.

Thank you

Thank you for your responses. I will proceed with submitting my application with a listing of my tickets to the best of my recollection and collect all my paperwork that I can.
