N400 and marriage situation

I got my GC based upon my employment. My wife was added to my GC during last stage (after marriage).
Now after 5 years, I applied for my citizenship. By this time, I separated from my wife and moved to different state. I applied for N400 in the new state, just for me. I am going to the interview in 2 weeks and I was wondering if my imperfect marriage can give me any problems during the interview. Can you guys share your thoughts please?

You might be asked for divorce decree at interview, so make sure you bring it. Either than that, your divorce does not affect your eligibility.

Thanks!!
I am not divorced. We have not filed for divorce. We are just separated and are not in speaking terms. (I do not know what legal separation means but I know that I have not done anything on the legal side for this separation). What does it mean for my interview? Would they doubt my application because my marriage is falling apart? I am little nervous because I donot know What kind of questions I may expect at interview?

Thanks!!

In that case just mention you are separated. No need to worry as it doesn't affect your eligibility either

Thanks Bobsmyth. This helps.
So, if the officer asks about my spouse or if she has filed for her own N400 etc, I would let them know that I am not in touch with her and I donot know about it. I hope this does not mess up my application. My GC was employment based. My only worry is that if the marital problems create any doubt in the IO's mind which I would really not want.

Not to worry. If the IO asks about your spouse, all you need to say is that you are undergoing seperation. No need to go into unnecessary details. Again, your separation deosn't affect your eligibility for naturalization.

Hey VK32,
I am in a similar situation. What did you mention on the N400 form - married or seperated or other?
Thanks!

Guys,

I am in similar situation. Still worse that I don't even have any official document (marriage certificate) to show as proof of my marriage.

Read my postings... the forum advised me to go as status "Married" and not to worry about interview. If IO asks... just state that I am married but separated

If you dont have a marriage certificate then you are not married in legal terms.

No, it is not an issue. My friend had an interview when he was separated and became a US citizen since he had his employment-based green card. No questions about your situation will not be asked. If IO asks you whether you are married or divorced, just say you are married because you haven't been divorced yet. you can tell IO that you are currently separated. It won't affect your eligibility for naturalization. IO will focus on your bio-data, how you obtained a green card, your eligibility and moral characters. That's all.

If your spouse hasn't become a US citizen and she applies for her citizenship, she will probably be questioned about martial status since her name was added to your green card since you were a primary green card holder.

So you don't have to worry about anything. You are eligible for US citizenship since you live for 5 years and you obtain your gc thru your employer. Good luck! :)

Status...

Thanks guys... Here is my experience..
On N400 form, there was no place for "separated". There was a "Other" status placeholder that you could use for this situation but since none of us had done any legal action, I checked "married"
I had the interview. The officer asked if I was married and I said yes and showed the certificate. During some conversation, he asked about my marital situation and I told him the truth that we are not living together. He then asked if any legal action has been done towards separation or divorce and I said no. So, he was okay with my honest reply.
My application was approved. So guys, don't worry, be honest and things will be fine. I wish you the very best.
Thanks to those who replied to my post and supported me. I was tensed but everything is okay now. Thanks.
