I sent my N 600 on 12/30/2010 to the Dallas office. I got a bill saying they cashed my check without a receipt number; from what I hear it's common to not get a receipt number for N 600. I made an infopass appointment and it was useless. I checked the time frame on the USCIS website. I still have not received an oath letter from them. I'm very concerned. Did anybody else have this happened to them? Please let me know. It'll help me out.

For N-600 one usually does not get assigned a case number, because N-600s are filed directly with the local field offices rather than with one of the national service centers. So it is normal that you only got a fee payment receipt. It has been less than 3 months since you filed your application, and I think it is too early for you to get nervous. The N-600 processing time for Dallas is currently listed as 5 months. If in 2 months you still have not heard anything, it'll be time to sound the alert then. By the way, what exactly did they tell you at the INFOPASS?
 
I agree with Baikal. Nothing seems unusual about your case, or to justify being nervous at this time. If you don't hear anything from them in 3 or 4 months then it might be time to get nervous ;) I'm kidding. I haven't heard of "missing" or "forgotten" N600 cases. Chances are you'll hear from USCIS within the timeframe of the application expected processing time.

How long did it take for you to get back the oath letter for N 600? Can I apply for a passport for my 17 yearold with my proof of naturalization and will it interfere with her getting the citizenship? Please help me out.

Yes, of course, you can apply for a U.S. passport for your daughter now, you don't have to wait for the N-600 to be approved. (I am assuming here that your daughter qualifies for derived citizenship through you under the provisions of the Child Citizenship Act, that is she has a green card and is living with you in the U.S. in your legal and physical custody).
The two processes (N-600 and getting U.S. passport) can be done independently; the order in which you do them does not matter and a passport application is not going to interfere with an N-600 application.

A passport application is processed much quicker than N-600, especially if you request expedited processing - then your daughter will get a passport in 2-3 weeks, most likely well before there is any movement on her N-600 application.
 
I got my letter last week, and my oath taking will be next month. It was a relief and I am very happy. Thank you so much! :)
