N-600 Question

Hello All,

My question is whether I am still eligible for citizenship via N-600. Here are the details of my case history

1. Immigrated as a LPR in May 1983 with both my parents.
2. Both parents became naturalized in October 1989.
3. My 18th birthday was in March 1998.
4. I recently (w/in the last month) immigrated to Canada as a Permanent Resident, thus forfeiting my LPR status in the US. Up until this point I had maintained LPR status in the US.

Am I still eligible to apply for Citizenship, even though I have given up my LPR status in the US?

It appears that there was no LPR status to give up, since you were already a citizen when you immigrated to Canada. Since you were 9 years old when your parents became naturalized and lived with them at the time of naturalization, you became a citizen when their naturalization was finalized.

The derivative naturalization law is fairly complex, but it looks to me like you are probably a citizen. It is likely that the law that applied to you is the one existing before the Child Citizenship Act of 2000 that I think needed both parents to naturalize (currently only one parent is needed). You had both parents naturalize so I think you became a citizen at some point. You should check some resources online as things changed over time and you should find which law applied at the time between your parents naturalized and before you turned 18. I am fairly positive that you are a citizen.
