N-470 and re-entry permit question

Hi, I have been a PR since Jan 2003. My N-400 application time line is in my signature. From Jan 2003 to Dec 2007 I have been out of the country only 2 times, that too, each time for a month or less. This year '08, I have been out of the country for 10 weeks. As you can see I am currently stuck in Name check black hole. I feel I am so close to naturalization, so I should wait it out, at the same time I feel I am not being fair to my wife who is in my home country. (I got married this year, since I did not know I would be stuck in name check)
I spoke to my employer (a US corp.) and they can probably arrange for me to work from our office in my home country on a short term basis- 3 months. I am hoping the name check mess will probably be cleared by that time and I can come back as soon as I get the interview letter.
Given that this is going to be less than 6 months out of the country, do I still need to file for a re-entry permit and additionally a N-470. I do understand these are two different things. Also what is the time line for filing a re-entry permit and N-470, are these something that can filed at the local DO and can be gotten on the same day. Please advise and sorry for the long post.

You should file for n-470 if you plan on working with the US company overseas. A reentry permit is only needed if you intend to stay outside the US more than 1 continuous year.
