Need expert advice when I can apply for naturalization.My case is intersting I don't think anybody seen this kind of case before .I got asylum approved in Dec 96 Applied for I-485 in Feb 1998 and had my interview in Local office in Oct 1998 and got approvel letter from local office that yourapplication for Lawful permanenet resident status has been approved.Your alien registration card will arrive by mail within the next six months.
Please do not travel outside the United States without first receiving a passport endorsement from the Immigration and Naturalization service.
I kept calling NSC for 3 years but nothing happen , finally I got the FP notice in Sep 01, I received my plastic card in the mail in April 2002 with backdated of Feb 01. So Guru's please advise me when I can apply for Naturalization.

My "expert advice" would be to go to a BCIS office and ask them to straighten up your situation. I honestly don't know what is the right date for you. For a straightforward Employment based Green Card it is the date the application was approved which I think it is shown on the approval notice and it should be the same on the GC on the resident since.

However, some people have posted in this forum cases where the GC had the wrong date (usually some priority date). I even think I've seen people posting messages saying that they went ahead and applied for naturalization relying on the wrong GC date, and got rejected (don't quote me on this).

Anyway, common sense should be that you are resident from the time your 485 application is approved. However, you maybe confused about at what time your application got approved, it seems that you got the finger prints after approval which sounds odd. Anyway, a local BCIS office, or perhaps a national call center information clerk can tell you what the right date is.
