N-400 Tax Return Transcripts for the Past 5 Years

Hey everyone,

I just read in the G-1151 Form (Thinking about Applying for Naturalization), and it says that I must bring certified tax return transcripts for the past 5 years.

What happens if I only filed tax returns for the past 4 years? I did not have any income in 2006.

Thanks for your help.

That form you cite is not official policy, statute or regulation. It was not written by someone who actually knows the law and is inaccurate in several major ways.

You merely need to indicate that you have not FAILED to file taxes (when you were actually required to do so) on the N-400. The only evidentiary purposes they serve are to demonstrate a marital union (when required to do so) OR to overcome a rebuttable presumption of a break in residence for a long trip abroad over 6months but less than one year. If these are not issues of concern, then forget about it all together.
