N-400 rejected. Re-application questions

Through my own stupidity I posted dated the check I sent to the USCIS on my original N400 application i.e. instead on 01/02/09 I wrote 02/01/09 and they sent back my application.

I want to re-apply and send my documents tomorrow but I'm not sure if I can just send in the same stuff (this time with the correct date on the check) or if I need to re-print and get new certified copies (I have a misdemeanor record) for the re-application. The reason I ask is because there is some printed stuff from the INS (for tracking purposes I assume) on the right border of all the pages I sent. I hope I can just send in the same as I don't want to delay it any further. Thanks in advance for all your help and assistance.

Thanks.

Oh No BUMMER---- so sorry this happened to you.

IF I were you I would send a new application CONSIDERING you say that INS printed some stuff on the paperwork already,, I would not want to risk having issues with that down the line.

But again it is only my opinion.

That's why I almost always write out the month in words (using a 3-letter abbreviation if there's not enough space to write the full month name). Otherwise, if I only use numbers, I find myself unconsciously reverting to DD/MM/YY, due to growing up where the dates are written like that. I think the US must be the only country that uses MM/DD/YY instead of DD/MM/YY.

Hehe, same problem here. I say, for example 1-Jan-2009 or something like that. This way, even though I still use date-month-year, it's still quite clear.

I appreciate everyone's 2 cents on date formats but does anyone know if I can re-send all documentation or not? I would really like to just re-submit the existing documentation instead of requesting certified copies all over again. This would also help me avoid the new lockbox procedure...not sure what implications the lockbox procedure will have but I'm always wary of new processes that USCIS rolls out.

It would be best for you to call USCIS Customer Service, explain your situation and get a response from them. Looks like it's worth spending the exta-time to submit a clean new app...just my 2 cents...

Going out on a limb here but from what I have read and researched even if you send it to the old addres your application will be forwarded to the new lockbox,, they have started to forward all applications since a while back, hence all the threads with forwarding issues and the ones where NOA's showing up with missing information like no birthdates etc etc..

with INS its usually a slow and sometimes frustrating process.

RESUBMIT THE SAME DOCUMENTS!!! The thing on the side are you talking about the time datestamp and a ID written on it? those are the received date and the ID of the person that worked on your application. It is recommended that you resubmit that because it is used for tracking purposes and determination. If all your thing was rejected for is just the date on your check just write a new check and you are all set to go.

Just got off the phone with USCIS. Thankfully I just need to re-submit my documents instead of arranging a new packet. FYI, the notice of action letter also stated for me to mail it to the TX lockbox...actually they mailed back my application from there so looks like the original app was forwarded to TX.

That is correct. A lot of people make the mistake of not re-submitting their application. What happens is that all N-400 applications go through a screening before it is forwarded to the adjudicating officer who in turn will be forwarding it to the local offices for the immigration officer to review your final one last time before he/she sets your interview date. If you resubmit with a completely new packet your packet will have to get re-screened which will also cause you to have a chance or forgeting to annotate something or even forgeting to sign your application which result with it getting rejected again.
