N-400 receipt question

Registered Users (C)
I received my N-400 receipt I-797C (texas center) but it says "Receipt with Exception" with application number (and not receipt number?) as "SSC*xxxxxxxxx (x are digits)

Below it says:
"The above application is received and is in process, but has been noted with one or more of the following exceptions"
Missing evidence- your application was missing evidence that you will need to provide at the time of your naturalization interview. you will be notified under separate notice of the necessary evidence that you will be required to bring to your interview. Do not submit any evidence by mail.

What does it mean??
Also my RD/PD is OCT 23, 2006.
FP done: 11/21/06
I checked the online status case w/ SSC* number but it failed!

will appreciate response/advice.

It means you did not submit one or more of the necessary documents along with the application. No big deal. You will be notified which document you need to take along at the time of the interview.

Unable to find the case status online

I have a receipt number that says SSC*xxxxxxxx but I am not able to see the status of the case online. FP was done on Aug 14, (Charlotte, NC). I tried to find the status online a couple of weeks ago, got "case retrieval failed" or something like that. So called the uscis customer service and at the first level they could not find the case either, so escalated it to the next level. The guy I talked to (2nd level escalation) asked for the A# and told me that waiting for FBI's response. Both of the people I talked to mentioned that I cannot see the case status online for N-400, I found that hard to believe since so many posts here talk about tracking the case status online. So what am I missing? Can anyone post me a link/procedure I should follow to check the case status online?

Thanks
