I am getting ready to fill out the N400 form and have the follow questions. I would appreciate if the guru's here can give me their input

1) Part 6 B - Employment - I have worked for a company that was to sold to another company. As part of the sale the deal was that our employment dates were grandfathered. ie my start employment date with company1 was sept/98. I worked their until Mar/01 a which time company2 bought us. Now I work for company2. My start date with company2 shows as sept/98 (as part of the deal our CEO negotiated). My question is do I list both companies or do I only list company2 since they bought company1?

2) Part 7 C: Trips. I have a number of trips out of the USA that lasted one day. ie I left on Jan 14 and returned on Jan 15. They were more then 24 hours since I left at 9am in the morning and came the next day at 3pm in the afternoon. According to the page 24 of the naturlization guide it says "Generally, partial days spent in the United States count as whole days spent in the United States.". Therefore should I list these trips as 0 days outside of the USA?

3) Part 4: Address - There is a spot to fill in county. I know the place I live has a county associated with it. I can find out the name and fill it in. However, no one ever uses it in their address. Do I need to fill it in?

4) Part 10 D: Moral Character: I have read all the posts re traffic tickets....so I understand that I need to include them. I have a few speeding tickets. My question is do I answer yes to both 16 and 17 or just yes to 16?

Thanks for your help in advance!

> I would specify them as 1 day and not 0 day trips.

> no one uses the county name in the mailing address. rgdless, you will need to
> fill it in....

question 16 and 17

Here are the questions for part 10 D

What do I answer to both of these for speeding tickets?

16: Have you ever been arrested, cited or detained by any law enforcement officer (including former INS and military officers) for any reason?

17: Have you ever been charged with committing any crime or offense?

Thanks DR_Z

partial day question

ok, so I will list the short trip as 1 day. What about a trip where I went for 7 days but was in the USA the day I left and then back before midnight the day I returned? Would this be counted as 7 days or 5 days? (ie do I count the day I left and the day I returned?)

For my application I only counted days when I was out of the country, any partial days within the US were counted as full days within the US. For eg. I left on Monday and returned on Wednesday, I listed this trip as 1 day out of the US.

Refer to page 24 of the natz. guide which states that "Generally partial days spent in the United States count as whole days spent in the United States". Unfortunately the statement by beginning with the caveat "Generally" leaves some ambiguity.

IMHO the conservative route would be to list these as 1 day trips, worst case you did not need to report them but you did, and you still met all the residence requirements.

You could also take revised pages from N-400 form not listing these trips to your interview and ask the IO about whether to count these trips, If the IO says no, then you just give the IO the corrected page, if not, you already have the correct information in your form.

Speeding tickets fall under question 16.
