I had my interview on 8/30/2006 and the officer approved the application. Here are the key highlights from the interview:

- The officer was courteous and professional throughout the interview
- She asked for birth certificate at one point. I was not carrying my birth certificate. Luckily, she found a copy of it in my file, which I had submitted in my GC application.
- She did not look at my SSL letter. She said it is relevant only if I had a Green Card during the specified age bracket.
- She asked lot of clever questions. It would have been hard to hide any facts from her.
- The fact that I was working for the same company for past 9 years and the same company had applied for my GC, played positively.
- I had one traffic citation in 1994. She asked me about it but did not care for any documentation.
- All the history/civic questions were from the standard set of 96 questions.
- She did not look at the income tax returns, marriage certificate etc. (I had applied on the basis of 5 year after green card.)
- She did ask me for the "certified criminal record" from Austin Police Department since my fingerprints could not be captured correctly. This record is needed only if your fingerprints did not come out ok.
- She did say that Oath ceremonies are not being held in Austin because the place is closed for renovations. She did say that they hold an Oath ceremony once every month.

Now waiting for Oath letter. Good luck to all.

Another N-400 interview experience at San Antonio

This naturalization interview was for my wife on 8/29 at San Antonio. Her application was also approved. Key highlights:

- The interview went smoothly. The officer was courteous and professional. My wife and I were interviewed by different officers (interview dates were one day apart)
- The officer did not look at passports, tax returns, marriage certifcates etc.
- All civic/history questions were from the standard list. These questions were asked verbally (not written)
- No oath date was given. The officer told my wife to expect the oath letter in the mail in about 4 months (!).
- The officer asked her how she had gotten a Green Card.
- She was asked to write her name in cursive on her photographs and on another piece of paper. The first and last names had to be written clearly in cursive. It did not matter if they match the bank signatures.
- She was asked about the places she had lived since she came to US. She was asked if she owned the current house. The officer did not look at the property papers.
- The officer went thru the entire application and verified all the answers.

I hope this helps.

Did officer specifically ask about employment history?
Yes, she did. She asked me which company had sponsored my Green Card. She also asked me if I was still with that company.

Many Congrats to you and your wife.

I have a question, I am assuming that you have a criminal arrest in your past. Were any official court documents also needed?

DanaS,

Your assumption is incorrect - the only history I had was one traffic citation in 1994 (no points). The officer did not care about the traffic citation.

I had to get "certified criminal history" just because USCIS could not capture my fingerprints correctly. I visited them twice for fingerprinting. Apparently, even with electronic technology, sometimes the finger prints can not be captured/processed correctly. This situation does happen to many applicants.
