It's $400 and do not refer to N-400 guide (it said $390). I first filed $390 ($320+$70) and 2 weeks later got the return mail from the office. It said the current fee should be $330+$70=$400.
I think it doesn't matter for 1 or 2 checks but I used 2 checks and the $330 check I wrote "Application Fee" on memo and $70 check I wrote "Fingerprint".
Yes, both fees can be clubbed together into one check. That's exactly what me and my spouse did. We sent checks for $400 with each of our applications.
