N-400, do they verify employment?

I have been with the same employer for over 5 years. I lied about by immigration status to secure this employment. I disclosed this during my GC application and they fined me for it and still issued me the GC.

Now, after 5 yrs, I am ready to apply for my citizenship. If they do verify employment, I am sure my employer will wonder why Immigration is calling them? During this tough economy, should I secure another job before I think of getting my citizenship? or do they even call in the first place? I know it wont affect my naturalization because they know about it, but I could lose my job?

Employment is irrelevant to naturalization UNLESS it was an employment-based greencard that was procured by a fraudulent employment offer in order to get the greencard illegally.

It does not appear that this is an issue for you. USCIS will not call your employer and your employer couldn't legally fire you over that old, forgiven, unauthorized employment.
