N-400 Citizen ship application

Hello,

My wife and I will be completing 5 years on green card this december. I have contacted my Immigration attorney regarding citizenship application and was told that it is going to cost $3000/per person (just attorney's fee not including INS fee and other charges) Our status here has been with out any issues, we both are working and no legal issues, paid taxes. I would appreciate your advise regarding the following,
1. Is N-400 a lengthy and complicated process?
2. Can I do it my self? Without going through the attorney who did my Labor cert. and 140.
I read the application, i did not see any problems in completing and applying. I am in North Carolina and have to send my application to Texas Center.
Thanks.

ravm1, do not pay a penny to lawyer. I know it is not their fault to charge your $3K each but thing is it is not necesarry. Like you mentioned, your case is crystal clear, transparent and no illegal stuff, do not worry about it. Like Bobsmyth suggested, read the information about filing the N400 and if you have any questions, either search this forum or if you do not find your answer create a thread with your question. Good luck to you. I did not consult a lawyer for my GC or for N400. Again, good luck!!

Thank you. I have decided to do it my self.
I am glad to notice that you are from NC. I am 85 miles from Raleigh.
It looks like there is a new office in Raleigh/Durham.
Is it taking a year for the complete process? If its ok I would like to speak with you.
Thanks
