N-400 Application

I have sent the application (N-400) on 12th Jan., 2007 by Fed-Ex (I now regret sending it via FedEx).

It is already 20th Jan. I don't see my check cleared yet. From the posts I have read, I see the payment getting accepted within a week. Do you people think that I need to resend the application?

What is the receipt notice? Will I get a receipt notice first or will I see my check for $400 cleared forst?

Thanks.

Usually, your cheque will clear first and then they will send you a receipt that will have your receipt number.

I would say give it a couple more days and see what happens. Maybe they're busy??? ;)

By the way, does the Fed Ex tracking say that your package was delivered without issues?

Yes the FedEx delivery system states the package was delivered and I even have the receipt with the signature.

Sit back, relax and check your (USPS) mail every day. You will know that you have a "notice" when you see it - it is very official looking. Ours took almost a month (if I remember correctly)

My N-400 Application experience.

My wife and I had mailed N-400 application on 4th January, 2007. It was received by Vermont processing center on Jan 8th January, 2007. We used UPS to send the N-400 application with return receipt option. January 8th, 2007 is my priority date.

On 1/19/2007, I got I-797C (Notice of Action) in mail from Vermont processing center. At this point, $400 dollars was deducted from my account (sent cheque was cleared). On 1/20/2007, I received another mail (I-797C, Notice of Action) from Vermont processing center requesting me to do fingerprint on 1/30/2007. If I am not able to go on 1/30/2007, I have until 4/30/2007 to get my fingerprint done.

However, my wife did not get any notifications from the same center, even though we sent our papers the same day and it was received on the same day. This sounds like your case, probably it is in a different queue, awaiting to be looked upon. I think, probably it will be soon ....

Do anyone know if I will be asked to the take test after fingerprint appointment? I read elsewhere, in some centers, applicants might be asked to take the history/civics test right after fingerprint appointment.

Any comments or experience?

Carnegiefox

Don't worry about a few days. Only worry about months and years.

Whether you take the test with your fingerprints or at your interview is a function of your district office it seems. Same with whether you can take the oath the same day as your interview (or if you get the oath letter as you leave a successful interview).

They have recived mine last Wednesday, and check is still not cashed.
One ignirant question-I have sent one check, both for form and Fp, is that correct?

Thank you FlyDog!

Thanks for your comments.

Today, my wife got her application receipt document from Vermont processing center.

Slow, unpredictable and frustration are adjectives to remember when dealing with the USCIS.

If you worry about every day and check every web site, 800 number, etc every day, you risk going nuts. Sit back, relax, check your mail, and be pleasantly surprised with something, anything, shows up in the mail.

OK, frustration is a noun. I meant "frustrating" (which isn't quite an adjective (it's a gerund, isn't it), but it's close enough) :)
