Hello everyone,
first of all, i want to say, i am proud to be an American !!! finally completed the oath
i want to share my experience with everyone, so that at least some people may get benefit from it.
i applied for naturalization with name change 90 days before my 5th year anniversary back in September of 2010. i received the interview letter and interview was scheduled for December, which was few days before the anniversary date. my interview was very straight forward. i past civic and English tests and completed the interview in less than 15 minutes. officer asked me to sign my N-400 form and few other papers for the name change. i did as i was instructed. then officer told me, congratulations, your application is recommended for approval and told me that you will receive the oath letter with 2 - 3 weeks. i was so delighted
here is the catch, i didn't receive anything about oath for 4 weeks, so i started to worry, called few times to 1800 # and officer told me that there is an A file request on my application. so i made an info pass and went to local office. officer at the window checked my info and told me to wait in the waiting area. after sometime, he called my name to come to the window and told me that i suppose to sign n-400 form and picture with my new name. that was the hold up of my application. so i signed all n-400 and picture with my new name to correct the issue. officer said, everything is good to go, wait couple weeks for oath letter. after two weeks, i received the oath letter and completed the oath. n-400 journey completed, new journey started as a citizen!!!
lessons learned: be careful when you sign the n-400 application, make sure to sign with correct name if you are changing your name.
