Hi,

The lawyer I used for my Green Card told me that I could apply for my citizenship 3 months prior to completing 5 years as a permanent resident. I won't be using a lawyer for my citizenship application. How can I verify that I can indeed apply 3 months prior to 5-year requirement?

It actually 90 days before the anniversary of your 5 years as a greencard holder. The lawyer was partially correct, because 3 months has 92 days or so. For example, let us say you were issued your greencard on June 1, 2004, then you would have been eligible to file in March 2009, which will be 90 days before June 1, 2009 which will be 5 years.

Thanks

Al,

Thanks for your response. I couldn't find any mention of this anywhere i.e. the Guide of the USCIS website. Not that I don't trust you but is there a mention of this anywhere?

Thank you very much for your help.

it is written everywhere in the application about the 90 day rule

Thank you

On a more careful examination, I noticed the 90 rule in the application. Thank you all very much for your help.
