N-400 and AR11

Hi All,

Iam getting ready to submit the N-400 application (I have completed 4yrs and 90 days under PR). I have two questions -

1. As soon as I got my EAD, I switched employers. The employer who sponsored my GC didn't have any objections. Will this create a problem.

2. Iam planning to change my last name. How will this impact my processing timeline. Iam planning to submit the N400 to the Wash DC office.

Thanks,
Kunal.

The IO may make it an issue at interview if the change was to another field of career.

Name change requests can prolong processing depending on the availability of Federal oaths in DO service areas that require them.

You should be OK as long as that other job met the "same or similar" according to the AC21 law.

It won't affect your interview date if you request the name change on the N-400. But it may delay your oath date by a couple of months, because name changes require a judicial oath, which are normally done less frequently than regular administrative oaths. However, in some locations all the oaths are judicial oaths so it wouldn't make a difference.
