Form N-400 (Rev.11/01/06) Y Page 7 Question - 8. a
Have you ever been a member of or associated with any organization, association, fund foundation, party, club, society or similar group in the United States or in any other place?

What is the response to this as it can include a Grocery club card as a "club membership"?

Any pointers will be highly appreciated

Thanks

It is not meant for silly things like Costco or Safeway. They mean a political club or party.

I played it safe. I mentioned my membership to BMWOC and NASIOC on my N-400 since the question mentioned "ANY". My adjudicating officer did not even stop at that section during my interview.

I wrote down everything I could think of (boy scouts, school student societies, PTAs), but I didn't write down Costco or Sam's club (or my Kroger discount card).

The idea is that you are supposed to write down every club/association. If they later find that you are a Nazi, or a communist or a member of Al Queda and you didn't write it down, then they get to remove your naturalization and deport you for lying on the form.

I would change a cause and effect a little as follows. If someone, after becoming a citizen, commits a crime and USCIS wants to deport them, they will look into/review again N-400 application to see if there is anything which was misrepresented or ommited which would allow USCIS to say that the person obtained citizenship by misleading or laying on the application. But I thought even then, it should be something substantial and not just Sam's club membership.

Otherwise, after the Oath, I do not think anyone will ever revisit the application.

Well, look at several denaturalization cases of former Nazis who lied on their naturalization applications. They were picked up not because of current activities but rather because facts from their past surfaced one way or another.

Obviously, membership in consumer clubs is irrelevant.

What about AMA membership

My wife is member of American Medical Association. Should she mention that?
